MCSE Certification Vs Job Experience
Will obtaining your MCSE certification really be worth the time, effort, and expense? As a newbie in the field of IT, will you be able to compete with senior ITs who have years of experience yet lack MCSE certification?
Obviously, for employers, the best of both worlds is what they hope to find; a seasoned IT professional with years of experience who is also credentialed. In order to be at the top of competition, that should be your ultimate goal; to continue to further your education and credentials as the years pass and you gain more and more hands-on experience. However, some IT professionals are content to rely upon their experience and have no desire to become MCSE certified.
There is no doubt that MCSE certification looks good on your resume and will make you more attractive as a potential employee, but if you don't have the hands-on experience to back up your certification, then it is possible you could get passed over for jobs in the early years of your IT career.
One way to remedy the situation is to try to get as much experience as you can, even if you have to accept lower paying jobs at the beginning of your career. In fact, if you are willing to work in less skilled areas of IT and accept a lower beginning salary, you will find job prospects are pretty good. It is important to keep in mind when you look at salary charts for IT professionals and MCSE certified professionals in particular, that you realize many MCSE credentialed ITs do have at least a few years of experience. In fact, it is recommended to have at least two years of experience before attending a MCSE boot camp to work towards MCSE certification. Newbies to the world of IT sometimes mistakenly believe that they will land a high paying IT job with a fresh MCSE certification and not a lot of experience. It doesn't really work that way in the real world as nothing can replace the experience of working in the field every day for at least a few years and dealing with problems as they arise on a day to day basis. None of this should be cause for concern however. MCSE certified IT professionals are in huge demand all around the world and the outlook for this profession is good and jobs are expected to increase in the years to come. By gaining some experience and becoming MCSE certified, you will be in a great position to be extremely competitive in the marketplace and you can expect your salary to increase over time as your experience and list of credentials continues to grow.
